Soha Niasati wins best actress in Russia

Soha Niasati has won top prize at 2019 Moscow International Film Festival in Russia.

Soha Niasati has won top prize at 2019 Moscow International Film Festival in Russia.

The young Iranian actress garners the Best Actress award from the 41st edition of the Russian film event for her debut role in ‘My Second Year in College’ directed by Rasoul Sadr-Ameli.

Soha Niasati takes the winning role all incidentally when a friend of hers tells her there is film project casting and looking for some new faces. Regardless of low chances for her recruit, she gets taken on from among 900 candidates who auditioned for the part.

“Mahtab (brought to life by Niasati) and Ava are college sophomores who go on a few-day trip from Tehran to Isfahan, along with a number of their classmates,” the film's plot summary reads.

Notable among the cast of the movie are Ali Mosaffa, Vishka Asayesh, Babak Hamidiyan, Shaqayeq Farahani and Maryam Boubani.

Dating back to 1935, Moscow International Film Festival is considered one of the oldest film festivals in the world.

This Russian cinematic event is compared in importance to its other European equivalents such as Cannes and Berlin film festivals.

The 41st edition of the festival held April 18-25, 2019.
